dealing with an abbreviation

While working on the next post I realized I was beginning to abbreviate the term “[Personal] Cloud-based applications” as “Cloud-based applications” which was a mistake. Sorry about that.

“Cloud-based applications” as a term means a whole lot more than “[Personal] Cloud-based applications” (to me, anyway) and since I grapple with the latter I have no chance with the former.

So I have tidied up the right section on the right page and the page is now called “The Cloud and [Personal] Cloud-based applications.” It remains essentially the same, but I just emphasize that when I wrote “Cloud-based applications” I was really talking about “[Personal] Cloud-based applications.” It was just a bit confusing.

As a reminder of what I mean by “[Personal] Cloud-based application,” here’s my definition:

“Now, on this blog I define “[Personal] data” as data I own or create, particularly data about myself.

So when I use my computer with my applications and my [Personal] data that’s [Personal] computing. When I switch and use the Cloud-computer with Cloud-based applications and my [Personal] data that’s [Personal] Cloud-based computing.”

The other part is, I think, [Business] Cloud-based applications and they are somehow wrapped up with the technical side of Cloud-computing. If you have an interest in that I put up a post with the “Draft NIST Working Definition of Cloud-Computing” (dated 6-1-09) in August.

The technical side is even fiercer than the business side as far as I’m concerned and is completely beyond my event horizon. I figure the narrower the focus I can give this blog the better. And even then I find it tricky.

So, having clarified that, I hope, on we go. Can I have a drink of water, please?
